OYSTERS, Oysters, and more oysters...

OYSTERS....They are everywhere in Charleston!

This weekend is the "World's Largest Oyster Roast" located at Boone Hall Plantation in Mt. Pleasant, The Charleston Horticultural Society's Annual Oyster Roast at Lowndes Grove in Downtown Charleston and The Charleston Crab House fundraiser on James Island.  I am sure you will also find lots of backyard roasts this weekend because it is suppose to be Beautiful!  (70 degrees in January?!?!)

So, in honor of all the oyster roasts and festivals I did a little researching on where to find the best local oysters in Charleston and I came across this website LocalOysters.com....located in Awendaw, SC.  I mean, who can beat Fresh, Local Oysters delivered right to your front door!  :)

SC Oyster Roast

I also found a local company called the Charleston Shucker Company that designs and sells customized oyster knives, shucking gloves, custom shucking towels, handy holsters, and hostess buckets.  Their galvanized buckets are super cute gifts!  For $35.00 you get a personalized oyster knife, a set of gloves, a bottle of hot sauce, and it's all packaged in a galvanized tin pail.  Great for birthdays, hostess gifts, shower presents, and groomsmen.  (They also offer a discount if you purchase over 5)

So why do so many people like to eat ooey gooey slimy creatures in a shell??  Well....honestly because they are good!  You can eat them RAW, Steamed, Fried, On a Half Shell, or however you would like them. I personally like mine on a saltine cracker, hard steamed, a little horseradish, a dash of hot sauce, and topped with another cracker!   So during this time of year and any month that has an "r" step out and get to an oyster roast or backyard cook-out.

HAPPY FRIDAY!!! :)
