Charleston Wine + Food Festival

Holy Cow this weekend was CRAZY, but my favorite time of year......CHARLESTON WINE + FOOD FESTIVAL!  Going on Lucky # 7 of celebrating the best chefs and wines in one weekend and one of the best cities in America...Charleston!  If you have never experience what this weekend is all about, you need to start planning for 2013!

After wrapping up a SOAKING Wet MS Walk on Saturday morning....it was back to the apartment for me to catch a few ZZZ's before "Hitting the Streets" of Charleston at the Visitor's Center Bus Shed.
Set-Up...Before Guests Arrived
This year I had to opportunity to work with the festival's Volunteer Coordinator, Georgia Nettles, to assist as the Volunteer Captain for the Festival After Hours Event at the Bus Shed.  It consisted of a wide variety of street performers, Quiana Parler and Friends, Local Food Trucks, Restaurant "Street" Vendors, Wine & Liquor Distributors, Graffiti artists, and so much more.

Street Performers and Lots of Eatin' & Drinkin' going on!
Grant and I lucked up and found VIP passed to the Saturday evening After, After, Party!  This was an invite only event that took place at my all time favorite restaurant, FIG!  Even though we missed out on happenings, we still had a good time just being there with the "VIP's"....hahah!  We followed up this party with a stop by Halls Steakhouse to visit with an old friend of ours, Robbie, who works for Halls as the Wine Sommelier.

Sunday was spent sleeping in and catching up on as much sleep as possible before the Tasting Tents. I was offered tickets to attend and Grant was of course, working the event pouring up some wines!   It was a great time.....I met up with my friends Megan and Jennifer who "toured" the tents with me.  We went from table to table tasting wine after wine after wine, and food after food after food.  I mean, what else could you ask for!  :)
Duck Confit served with Risotto and Micro greens (I gave my duck to Jennifer ;))
And then of course we found our way to the BBQ, Blues, and Brews event at the Maritime Center down by the Aquarium.  It was a little bit chilly, but we had a great time for the short period of time that we attended.  Again, we found tickets......I have no idea how.....but we got in and enjoyed the Lowcountry Bluegrass Band the Bushels and lots and lots of BBQ.  I enjoyed the Grilled Swordfish and Macaroni and Cheese. YUM!  Cupcake also provided a Chocolate Sea Salt Cupcake that was pretty yummy. :)

All in all it was a GREAT weekend!!  Being that it rained, two out of the three days, I think we all had a great time and it was another successful year for the Charleston Wine and Food Festival.  Can't wait to get more involved for what 2013 has to bring!  See you next year. :)

Spoiled Rotten....

Let's just start with saying that I love my job.....it is not everyday that you get to work for great people and do what you love!  Well, I do!  I get to plan events, parties, adventures, and whatever your wildest dreams can imagine.  I also get to wine and dine with the best in the industry!

On Friday my office was spoiled by our good friends, Bricklane Catering.  They invited us to their kitchen for a "chef's table" tasting with their executive chef Charlie.
It was delicious! :)  Below are some photos of our tasty lunch.
THANK YOU BRICKLANE!

My little monkey, Rivers, also indulged in the spoiledness (I know that is not a word) this weekend.  We went to lunch with some good friends on Sunday to Sullivan's Island and after lounging on the Patio of Home Team BBQ for a few hours, Rivers got to enjoy the beach for a little run.  Below is a picture of Rivs right before he was released to run on the beach!  Such a happy little boy. :)

Happy Monday!

Sad Weekend....

This weekend was very sad for my family and me...heaven took not only One Angel, but Two. :(

On Wednesday, February 15th 2012 my Grandmother Myers passed away.  She was 85 years old, but lived a very happy and fulfilling life.  She was the mother of four children, grandmother of ten, and great grandmother of one.

She had a LOVE for crossword puzzles, newspapers, Jeopardy, and sewing.  I remember as a child getting sweaters, hats, scarves, and blankets.  Here is a picture that I took on my iphone only a few hours before she passed away of a pillow she had given to me a few years back for Valentine's Day.

Towards the end of her days she was starting to loose the liveliness that she shared with so many, and we all knew that her day would be coming to an end soon.  It was expected, but I don't think that death is something that anyone can fully prepare for.
I LOVE YOU GRANDMA!

As we laid my grandmother into the ground on Saturday, February 18th 2012 we received more horrible news that my grandfather, Pal, had passed away.  He just turned 88 on February 10th.  Three weeks earlier we found out that he had pancreatic and liver cancer and would have a few months to live.  Knowing that our time with him would be short, my mother went to stay with him and my Nana to help keep him comfortable and spend what time we had left with him.

Pal was a very kind, but strong willed person.  He had a love for Card Games, Atlanta Braves, Auburn Tigers, Outsider Art, Gardening (especially okra, tomatoes, and hot peppers), Computers, his Koi Fish pond, his two cats, stuffed olives (soaked in GIN....that I would eat as a kid), and my Nana's home cooking!

He also had a love for Cars!  My Pal was a Formula One race car driver in the 70's as well as the owner of the Atlanta Motor Speedway.  After racing and selling the track he went on to sell cars at Baker Motor Company in Atlanta.  From the stories that my parents tell, I wish he had kept some of those cars for me to play with. :)  Below are some pictures that he shared with me back in January of his racing days...

Even though it was not our time for Pal to go, he knew it was his time to go when he did around midnight on Saturday evening.....I spoke to my Nana that afternoon and asked for her to tell him to please hold on until mom could make it back to his bedside so that he could pass with his entire family by his side.  He listed....my mother had just returned from Pennsylvania after my grandmother's service to be with him.  He passed a few hours later around midnight in peace and without pain.  I LOVE YOU PAL & MISS YOU!

I will miss them both greatly, but thankful for the wonderful memories we had together!
